On 10 July 1983 Farahani was born on Tehran, Iran. Her born name is Rahavard Farahani. By profession, Golshifteh is an actress, Singer, and Musician. In 1997 she started her acting career. She won the best actress award for Boutique from the 26th annual film festival  ‘ Nantes Three Continents Festival’.

Golshifteh is the daughter of Behzad Farahani. Her father is a Theatre director and actor and her mother’s name is Fahimeh Rahim Nia. She has one sister name is Shaghyegh Farahani (She is also an actress).



In 1998 Golshifteh started her career in the Iranian drama film ‘The Pear Tree’. Her name is Mim in the film. For her role in this film, she receives a Simorgh Prize for the best actress category at the Fajr film festival.

In 2012 She starred in Atiq Rahimi’s direct film ‘The Patience Stone’. This film receives the most positive review.

In 2016 Farahani played a lead role in Jim Jarmusch’s direct American drama film ‘Paterson’ as Laura. In this film, Farahani works with American actor ‘Adam Driver’.

The film receives a 96% approval from Rotten Tomatoes Movie site and receives an extremely positive review.

Golshifteh played a sea witch Shansa in 2017 American Swashbuckler fantasy film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’.

In 2020 she played a Nik Khan role in Sam Hargrave direct American action thriller film ‘Extraction’.

Golshifteh is  Kooch Neshin Band member and they won the second Tehran Avenue underground rock Competition.

Golshifteh team up with another Iranian Musician name is Mohsen Namjoo and their album ‘Oy’ was released in October 2009.

She took the 6th place in the annual independent critic’s Beauty list in 2014.

She permanently moved to Paris and worked with many directors like Hiner Saleem, Roland Joffe, and Marjane Satrapi.
